Starting Jan 5, Telecommunications company in Singapore like Singtel, StarHub, M1, and SIMBA users can block incoming calls from international numbers to prevent scams.

This free service by The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), a statutory board under the Singapore Ministry of Communications and Information allows toggling the feature as needed, especially useful for travellers.

“The public should continue to exercise caution when receiving calls and SMS as scammers’ tactics continue to evolve. Scammers will continue to change their methods and tactics and there is no foolproof measure even as we continue to monitor and implement additional safeguards,” said IMDA.

In 2023, 1 in 4 international calls were blocked as scams. Mid-2024 will see options to block international calls & SMS.
