In a statement signed by the  Chairperson NAWOJ  Comrade Adeola Ekine and the association secretary, Comrade Lilian Ario,  pen professionals should continue to use this medium to disseminate information that would uphold unity in the country. “Let’s shun all kinds of hate speech while delivery effective information. In our communication to the masses, let’s innovate better ways of communication so as to continue to connect and make radio the best form of communication ever”.

They said that the ‘Word Radio Day’ (WRD) was proclaimed 10 years ago by the member states of the United Nations Educational ,Scientific and Cultural Organisation(UNESCO). It adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012 as International Day, hence Febuary 13th became World Radio Day.

“Radio is a tool of communication which has made all forms of communication possible through the disseminating of all forms of information to educate, inform and even entertain listeners.

Radio is a powerful tool which serves as a means of reaching out to the widest audience across the globe.

Radio ranks as the greatest tool of information which helps to ‘shape a society experience of diversity, stand as an arena for all voices to speak out, be represented and heard”.

They maintained that radio has the widest geographical reach and the greatest audience compared with the internet, television and newspaper.

“The World Radio Day is celebrated to increase awareness on the important role radio play in the world at large.

This edition of WRD is divided into three main sub-themes namely: Evolution, Innovation, Connection”.
