Once Upon A Nigeria
“What manner of government guns down in cold blood, its own young people? Un-armed, idealistic, patriotic youngsters seeking a better country! This is a sad day for our country”. That was the teary write up on the social media handle of a renowned publicist, Mr. Ehi Okoruwa.
What happened in Nigeria last week Tuesday was totally uncalled for. Was it genocide? A revolution or war? It was alarming and traumatizing.
In every sane country, the government listens to the voice of its citizens but not in Nigeria.
Why massacre your youths (and call it photo shop) because you hold the upper hand? Only people who fear the future would intimidate and frighten their subjects into submission.
A simple request by the youths: End SARS.
The government pretended to have heard and did a christening of same squad thereafter.
Once upon a time, a child will take in any information hook line and sinker but today, tell a five year old not to hold that kitten that way and he will ask why?
Years ago, Joshua, my son was placed under punishment and he retorted,”I didn’t do it. Yes, I am kneeling down now but in my spirit, I am standing up”.
Today’s youths have risen to the occasion, cannot be cowered like their too timid parents. They are bold and fearless. They don’t care whose ox is gored because they want better standard of living. They want admission into the university without a man know man syndrome. They want accountability. They want to be heard. Even babies want to be heard. Are they asking for too much?
They want the end of monsters that maim torture, kill, and harvest their organs abroad and them causing sorrow to families.
What is so difficult for elected government to understand?

What happened to the letter delivered by the Lagos state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu? Why did you allow such massacre at the Toll gate?
Soldiers are supposed to fight enemies not citizens. But you allowed your future, the future of Nigeria to be wasted by those you ordered to do.
It was truly a black Tuesday. A day that wasn’t just about the biblical David Versus Goliath story but a David with two Goliaths.
The hour was grave but unfortunately not much help from the international community not that they don’t care in their own right but if a government ordered shoot at sight at its youths, then psychological examination was needed expediently.
If the youths were all massacred, then Nigeria would never have a youthful president like President Emmanuel Macron of France, Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau but will only have recycled seniors who know next to nothing about the thinking of the youths.
The youths want a better change and soon. They want to be freed from all shackles of poverty, siddon look and do as I tell you instruction.
An international observer said, only in Nigeria will Covid-19 palliatives be hoarded and citizens suffer in poverty and anguish.
How long shall they be patient before they get into the Promised Land? Hoodlums may have hijacked the situation because they were invited by some government officials to discredit honest protest.
A revolution has just begun and only sincere and sensible response can calm down their frayed nerves. The youths are not those from the 60s, 70s, but these are the social media nerds ready to take their destinies in their hands.
May all the souls of the youths lost on Black Tuesday (20/10/2020) rest in peace and may their blood never rest until the fallen Nigeria is helped to her rightful place.
