Popular social media messenger application; WhatsApp is set to introduce fingerprint authentication on Android phones soon.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working towards users deploying fingerprint to login to their accounts.
A new section under privacy which is called authentication is being tested and this is where users can choose whether or not to login via fingerprint. When enabled, a popup shows below where to access the WhatsApp.
Users device credentials such as pin or password can be used to login in case where they are not able to login to WhatsApp via fingerprint.
WABetaInfo also states that for IOS users, WhatsApp is also working on introducing TouchID and FaceID support. When activated, it will show a similar prompt like the one on Android and if unsuccessful, a passcode will be required.
This feature is undergoing development and would be available in the future for any android user having Marshmallow and newer and of course a fingerprint sensor.
