It is no longer news that in the last couple of weeks, the Tincan Island Port has received accolades from the Comptroller General of Customs, Col Hameed  Ali Rtd over interception and seizures of illegal goods including arms and ammunitions.

But the news is that in spite of the new vigor in the intelligence, the Tincan Island helsman, Comptroller Yusuf Bashar who spoke to Gtechnews through the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO),DSC Uche Ujesieme reiterated that the well being of their officers and men cannot be compromised.
According to him, intelligence and due diligence without sound health care may not achieve the desired effect expected.
Said he: “Following the compelling need by the officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service to key into the change mantra of the CGC, Col Hammed Ibrahim Ali Rtd, the TinCan Island Command has gone beyond that to further engage in the provision of infrastructure. Some of these include an ultra modern ICT center and most recently a standard clinic with bed facilities for male and female wards.
” This action became imperative and upon realization that the workforce and stakeholders need a health facility that would cater for their health and well being. The clinic was commissioned by the CGC on September 11, 2017″.
Ujesieme further stated that the CGC showered encomiums on the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller  Yusuf for his visionary leadership and transformation and urged other commands to borrow a leaf from the trail blazing command.
Commenting, a maritime analyst who pleaded anonymity said that the health care facility is a laudable one coming from the command in recent time.
“What obtains in this part of the clime is for most organisations to outsource  staff health care to private hospitals irrespective of their competence. The hospitals may be recommended on the decision of a few members of Board and the assessment may not be thorough enough. But this Command has created a primary health care facility in case of emergencies and other illnesses within the Tincan Island Port”, he said.
