Subscribers Knock Telcos Over Expensive Data Subscription, Fast Depletion
By Joshua Olaleye
Internet users in the country have expressed their pain, frustration and disappointment experienced by them on daily and monthly subscription basis.
Gtechnews learnt that majority of Nigerian subscribers are not happy with their various  networks based on the epileptic and manipulative services dished out to them.
In one of his recent post on the social media, Guardian former Sunday Editor, Mr Jahman Anikulapo explained how one of the service providers abused his digital nativity.
Said he : ” This is the second time this is happening to me. And on this occasion, I have decided to call out the management of Smile communications, in case they think they have been smart all along. On May 4, 2019 at about 3.21pm, I bought a 7GB worth of data at N5,000. All through the rest of the day, and up till 12 noon Sunday, May 5, I was not able to use the data.
“I called the customer care at about 12.30pm, and the man on the other side said I must have used up my data. I asked him what indeed I used the data for, he claimed he had no record. What illogicality. He could see that I used up my data, but could not see what I expended it on. That is brainlessness. I consider this a mighty fraud. I was never able to connect to the Platform, so when and what did I use the data for? At least, their record should show, so i know if the fault is from my end.
“As mentioned, it is the second time this is happening to me. The last time I was in Ibadan on an editorial engagement, and the lady at the counter at their Jericho shopping mall claimed that I could not connect because I was using an old modem, she persuaded me to buy a new modem for N17,000.”
Anikulapo further added that in his desperation, he bought the new gadget, and topped with credit, but was not able to use it. The service providers claimed it was a network issue.
“Then I had an engagement in Abeokuta, and the network never for once worked. I simply packed aside their worthless gadget, and it was only when I decided to reload, only to fall for second scamming.”
A student of Moshood Abiola polytechnic,  Hamzat Wuraola said Airtel and MTN indirectly steals from her because at a point she can’t hold her school fees for long and to crown it all “i have started using my life savings for subscription that will not work effectively”.
In his words,  a cinematographer, Isaiah Giwa
said if not for the monthly subscription and for him to get updated , he would probably have a house by now in a high brow area because  the Airtel two gigabyte meant to last for one month fairly use three days.
Another student of OSCOTECH, Alawode Lekan said his experience with Glo  on monthly basis is not a good one because the subscription depletes faster and it’s also very expensive .
For Idowu Itunu an unemployed graduate , after sibscription, the message is “You have successfully subscribed for your monthly data bundle’, and will expire at a stipulated date only for you to wake up the next morning and they say you have used over 70 percent.  How on earth , can monthly subscription become a daily one?”
Another student of Ogun State Institute of Technology, Elizabeth Nwawulu said sometimes when she subscribed there will be no network till her data expires or epletes before the expiry date, the worst part is when my subscription has finished my airtime is used in place of data.
On the other hand,  Busayo Nwabudike  commended MTN Nigeria for its fast internet service . However, she disclosed that the one month subscription may deplete within  few weeks without any cogent explanation.
Shalom Oluwapelola an upcoming artiste  added that
rapid deduction of data especially on the MTN network is something the regulator should look into as well as the incredible high rates of subscription is preposterous .
