NCS Seeks  FG’s Massive Support

The Nigeria Computer Society, NCS has appealed to the federal government for more conducive environment for its members in order to prevent more businesses folding up.
The Association noted that the support will spring more ailing companies to life if assisted quickly.
This,the umbrella body of IT professionals said at a sideline during the celebration of its 40th anniversary and National information technology merit awards (NITMA) held in  Lagos at the weekend.
“Only Government can cushion any shortfàll in the system because many companies are striving to gain their balance, they need more government support in all ramification  so as not to close shops”.
The event had in attendance captains of industries and government  functionaries.
In his speech, NCS  President, Prof Adesola Aderounmu said NCS has continued to grow in leaps and bounds tremendously transforming the IT landscape in Nigeria for good.
“The historic achievement of NCS over the years includes promulgated of IT and ICT enabling laws by the federal government several policies.  Acts and Laws promulgated by the federal Government for the development and growth of ICT  in Nigeria  were facilitated by the relentless advocacy efforts of the Nigeria computer society.
“My greater delight is that the Nigeria computer society is marking this significant 40th Anniversary milestone during my tenure as the President and i count myself very lucky . The epic journey started in 1993 during the military regime of  former president Olusegun Obasanjo,  an association called Computer  Association of Nigeria (CAN)  was born  out of a vision for IT in Nigeria. The Association’s acronym was soon changed to COAN. it was transformed into Nigeria computer society through harmonisation  in 2002 with information technology interest groups, specifically institute of software practitioners of Nigeria (ISPON) ,information technology industry Association (ITAN) and internet service providers Association of Nigeria (ISPAN). This resulted in the emergence of NCS as the umbrella body of all information technology practitioners, interest groups and stakeholders in Nigeria,” he explained.
The fortieth anniversary ‘s special recognition awards were given to the first 40 registered members  including vice presidents/deputypresidents ,presidents of the Nigeria computer society from 1978, Executive secretaries of NCS from 2004, presidents /chairman -in-laws council of CPN from 1993 and Registrars of CPN from 1993.
The peak of the award was the IT personality of the year ,and it was carted home   Adebayo Atekoja -MD/CEO Power Soft Integrated solutions Ltd.
Other awardees include Taiwo Oyesanwo, Manager, orporate affairs /head information technology 2003-2018. (staff long service award), Air Vice Marshal Victor Udoh, Pastor Mrs Ogedengbe Elizabeth Olufunke, Ms  Funke Opeke CEO Mainone, Dr. Isa Pantami DG/CEO(NITDA) and Dr Babatunde  Bayodele Olofin.
