NCAA To Collaborate With NCC On Aviation Safety
By Paul Aroso

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority is set to collaborate with Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on aviation safety.
The Director, Aerodrome and Airspace Standards, NCAA, Mohammed Odunowo, disclosed this when he led a delegation of the NCAA on a visit to the NCC
The agenda of the meeting was to seek collaboration on standards for telecommunication masts and towers, radio frequency spectrum and remotely piloted aerial systems to ensure safety of air travellers in Nigeria.
According to Odunwo, the visit was to see how both agencies could collaborate for the continuous safety of airplanes and helicopters as air travellers were set to double worldwide by 2030.
He said that the NCAA, which regulates the aviation sector in Nigeria sees the NCC as its “strategic partner”.
“For instance, to chart a flight path for helicopters, we need to always know ‘what is where’ in the airspace, and that’s why NCC has to be our strategic partner moving forward,” he said.
Speaking also, Executive Commissioner, Technical Services, NCC, Ubale Maska revealed that the NCC and the NCAA had been collaborating for a long time.
He said that the meeting with the NCAA was due to the common areas of interests between the two government organisations.
“There is a need for the collaboration as this will ensure that telecommunication masts close to airports conform to certain standards that guarantee the safety of air travellers in Nigeria.
“The other issues are related to drones and frequency issues around airports that NCC has helped to resolve in the past,” Maska stated.
