Group Exonerates NITDA’s DG On Scam Charges
…As EFCC keeps mum

Platform for Justice and Transparency in Governance, PSTG, a civil society organization, has exonerated the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Isa Pantami over allegation of procurement scam.

PSTG is conceived to monitor and track issues relating to public accountability and transparency with the ultimate task of fighting against corruption.
In a document sent to Gtechnews by the Executive Director of the group,Comrade Nazir Galadanchi disclosed that PSTG undertook a fact finding mission on the allegations of bypassing due process in the award of contracts in the 2017 budget.
“Our investigation revealed that NITDA never awarded a single contract for the year 2017. This, we found out that until recently, No funds were released to NITDA for the year and as such it wouldn’t have been able to award any contract. There was no award of contract to Galaxy Backbone Plc.
“Our investigation further revealed that due to non-availability of funds, the internet service supplied to NITDA by Galaxy Backbone Plc has not been paid for about four months and NITDA has shown its determination to work with and award contract to only companies that met all procurement regulations. On the alleged contract we found out that Galaxy Backbone offered to charge about 60 per cent less of what NITDA was paying for bandwidth in the past and that the previous Internet Provider doesn’t even have their compliance documents to continue to do business with government agency. So far, Bureau for Public Procurement has not responded to NITDA on the Certificate of ‘No Objection’ which is a precondition for the contractual engagement of Galaxy Backbone Plc or any other qualified entity”.
Galadanchi reiterated the group commitment to “Support, canvass and campaign for justice to all regardless of once position, status, race, religion or tribe and we shall as well, ensure that the good reputation of well-meaning Nigerians are not demeaned by faceless individuals for whatever sake without corresponding legitimate consequences”.
Recall that Director General of NITDA, Dr. Isa Ali was allegedly accused of contracts and procurement scam by another civil society group in September.
However, all efforts to reach the EFCC concerning its part of the story proved abortive.
